Should I start playing mass effect 2 without playing the first or should i start at mass effect 1?

I want to be more familiar with the story line and i heard it can be more personal if you've played the first 1 but i don't want to buy the first 1 and be bored with its features (Game play, Audio, Graphics, Storyline, etc.) if isn't necessary to go back 2 mass effect 1 i don't want to do it.Should I start playing mass effect 2 without playing the first or should i start at mass effect 1?
It isn't necessary, but I definitely recommend playing the original Mass Effect first. The part of Mass Effect 2 where the game fills you in on what you missed is not anywhere near as effective as having experienced the story for yourself. And playing 2 and seeing the impact of your choices from 1 is very cool. Plus 1 is a really really good game anyway; the story is compelling and you can make it very personal with the choices you make inside and outside of dialogue. ive never played either of them but personally i perfer to play all games from the first one to the last as long as i like it even if they are older like from windows 95

after the opening fighting you do in mass effect 2 they will ask you a few questions to get you caught up on the story a bit/fill in choices from ME1...so it's not a necessity..
